Letter to Sacramento ACLU Supporters

Dear fellow ACLU members and supporters:

Since an election meeting earlier this year, your newly-elected Board of Directors for the Sacramento County Chapter of the ACLU has been working diligently to complete the necessary organizing tasks to become a full-fledged ACLU chapter, and establishing committees to carry out our goals and strategies.

And, now, we are in an official position in Sacramento to continue the fight to protect everyone’s civil rights and liberties. And, we need your support.

We have nearly 2,600 ACLU members in Sacramento. This means, if we work together, we can wield an influential voice in our community. We’re asking our members to jump on board, and become involved in this struggle to regain the rights and liberties we have lost over the past few years.

Sacramento Issues. Locally, we have many potential issues, including, but not limited to, the protection of free speech rights in schools and in our communities, the abuse of surveillance equipment on our public streets and neighborhoods and other restrictions on our constitutional rights and civil liberties here in the Sacramento area.

The ACLU Sacramento Board is soliciting input from members like you about these and other issues you believe we should be monitoring.

Some of the areas in which we need support include vigils, rallies, hearings at various government entities (the State Capitol and local municipalities), staffing literature tables at events, and similar type activities.

Volunteers Needed. We also need volunteers for our ACLU Sacramento working committees, including: Communications, Development, Finance, Interest Groups, and Community & Legislative Affairs. We have enclosed a Questionnaire/reply form and a reply envelope.

Please, tell us what you would like to do for the Sacramento ACLU Chapter by completing the form and returning it in the enclosed envelope. Based on the responses to this Questionnaire, ACLU Sacramento will create programs and events for the upcoming year to fight for our civil liberties. Thank you for responding.

Also, please view www.aclusac.org for more information about meetings and events.

The Board wishes to thank you for your interest and support of the ACLU and its work. Please, contact us at any time. We’ve included email contact information for many members of the board.

Sincerely,
James G. Updegraff
Chair, Board of Directors

P.S. We’re asking all members to minimally send us their email address so we can start a Sacramento ACLU “quick response” list to contact you immediately if the need arises. Thanks, and I hope to see you soon at one of our Sacramento meetings or events.
